Lucknow: The foundation day of the Indian Federation of Working Journalists (IFWJ) was celebrated in Lucknow, with journalists raising concerns over proposed government regulation of digital media and calling for the protection of press freedom.
The programme was organised by the Uttar Pradesh Working Journalists Union (UPWJU), an affiliated organisation of the IFWJ.
Addressing the gathering, IFWJ National Vice-President Hemant Tiwari highlighted the organisation’s history and its struggles for journalists’ rights. He said the federation had consistently worked to secure dignified salaries and better facilities for journalists and would continue its efforts in the future.
IFWJ National Secretary Siddharth Kalahans expressed concern over a draft legal framework reportedly being prepared by the Central Government to regulate digital media. He said the federation would oppose attempts to impose government control on the digital media sector.
UPWJU State Secretary Utkarsh Sinha also stressed the need to oppose legislation aimed at increasing control over the media. He said the IFWJ would continue to pursue the issue.

Programme coordinator and UPWJU State General Secretary Ajay Trivedi extended his greetings on the occasion and said foundation day programmes were being organised across various districts of Uttar Pradesh.
UPWJU State Secretary Rajesh Mishra, P.P. Singh, Joint Secretary Sunil Diwakar, Ashish Bajpai and several other journalists attended the event.
The gathering highlighted journalists’ professional rights, working conditions and concerns over regulatory measures affecting the media, particularly the rapidly evolving digital news sector.
